Environment problems in the current world are alive and breathing but our lakes and rivers are not.
As part of the 12th edition of EFI, Environmentalist Foundation of India, 19,000 volunteers from 12 cities such as Chennai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Trivandrum, Coimbatore, Hyderabad, Puducherry and Mumbai gathered in their respective areas to clean up 15,000kgs of debris.
In a matter of 2 hours from 7 to 9 am, non-biodegradable trash found its way into the volunteers’ bags.
A major chunk of it was covered in much which made it unfit for recycling as recyclers do not accept wet trash.
The NGO’s founder Arun Krishnamurthy pointed out that removing the much is close to impossible with the amount of resources at hand. He also added that the most that can be done is to transfer the non-biodegradable waste from the water bodies to a confined landfill.
Let us not forget that we don’t own the Earth to do as we please. We are but renting our time here.
