Wiser words could not be spoken.
The National Green Tribunal was shocked to discover that the Minor Irrigation Dept’s response to removing Varthur lake encroachments was to simply set up an expert committee.
This “solution” was hit upon by the department to look for an alternative way to the roads and pipes at the Varthur lake.
Though the NGT committee does not see the need for this expert committee, they have nevertheless asked for a report from the department. The former warned the Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) to ensure that no sewage should enter the lake during and post dewatering and weeding.
They warned that the state government should and will take action against BWSSB if found so otherwise.
